Ok, so that title may be a tad bit misleading.
A new study conducted in the Netherlands just may have the answer to why during sex people (women especially) are less grossed out by fluids and situations we would normal cringe at. Sexual arousal seems to supress our natural disgust response. The findings were published Wednesday in the open access journal PLOS ONE. Lab tests mixed porn and plastic bugs. The researchers discovered that if you’re in the mood, lust will conquer all, even the skanky stuff, neurologically speaking that is.
This really shouldn’t be much of a shock though since even Freud has something to say on the subject “A man, who will kiss a pretty girl’s mouth passionately, may perhaps be disgusted by the idea of using her toothbrush.” – Not disgusted, just kind of phallic and kinda hot.
So to get those urges flowing for the experiments, the “sexual arousal” subset was shown a 35-minute, “female friendly” porno called “de Gast” – which translates to, “The Guest.” from Dutch. (Which I am figuring it was basically a Fabio book cover brought to life. I wonder if he brought butter.) Meanwhile, they had a “positive arousal group” which got to watch an adrenaline-rush movie on extreme sports. And then there was the control group who got to look at a train trip offering outdoorsy type scenery.
Scientists next asked all of the women to complete 16 gross-out type tasks, including drinking juice from a cup containing an insect (the bug was plastic) and cleaning their hands with a “solided” tissue (the snot was just colored ink).
The erotically charged women performed the highest percentage of repulsive jobs, the study reported. And they did those duties “with less disgust than subjects who were not sexually aroused,” the authors wrote, “suggesting that the state of arousal has some effect on women’s disgust response.”
Sure it does, in my experience….Horny women are down for whatever to get them to O-ville. Which makes me think a lot of the chicks on Fear Factor were horny as hell.
